If you're just starting out, a general-purpose sloyd knife is the most versatile first choice. It handles whittling, basic shaping, and detail work in one blade. Look for a blade length between 2.5" and 3.5" — that range gives you control without limiting the size of projects you can tackle.
For experienced carvers adding to their collection, consider what your current set is missing. A hook knife opens up spoon and bowl carving. A detail knife with a shorter blade gives you precision for faces and lettering. A draw knife lets you debark and rough-shape larger blanks quickly.
Every BeaverCraft knife ships sharpened and ready to use. If you're not sure which to pick, our starter sets pair the most popular knives together at a better price than buying separately

I've been carving for 20 years and these are the sharpest knives I've ever received out of the box. The handle fits my hand perfectly. Already ordered two more for my workshop.
Bought the whittling knife for my first project. The beginner guide that came with it was super helpful. I carved a little gnome on my first try and it actually looks good!
Great value for money. The steel holds an edge well, much better than I expected at this price point. The leather strop that came with the set is a nice bonus too.
Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to common questions. Contact us if you need more help.
What steel are BeaverCraft knives made from?
Our knives are made from high-carbon steel (primarily CS8 and equivalent grades) that offers excellent edge retention and is easy to sharpen. The blades are hardened to 57–59 HRC — firm enough to hold an edge through long carving sessions, but not so hard that sharpening becomes difficult.
Do your knives come sharpened?
Yes. Every BeaverCraft knife is hand-sharpened and honed before shipping. You can start carving the moment you open the box. We also include a guide on maintaining your edge with a leather strop.
Which knife should I start with as a beginner?
We recommend starting with a sloyd knife (like our C4 model) — it's the most versatile single knife for whittling and general carving. If you want a ready-to-go starter pack, our S01 Whittling Kit pairs the most popular knives together with a leather strop.
What's covered under the 10-year warranty?
Our warranty covers manufacturing defects in materials and workmanship — things like blade separation, handle cracking under normal use, or edge deformation not caused by misuse. Normal wear and damage from improper use (prying, batoning, dishwasher) are not covered.
